Seoul - Namdaemun Market Area

1. NamdaemunMarket

NamdaemunMarket is the largest and best general wholesale market in Korea. It was opened as the government chartered market in 1414. It is known for offering virtuaiiy every product imaginable, including clothing and textile products, everyday items, kitchen utensils, handicrafts, accessories, imported merchadise, food, miscellaneous articles, farm and fishery products, and much more to wholesale and retail customers nationwide inexpensively.





















 




 

2. Sungnyemun Gate

    In 1394, the new dynasty (Joseon) established Hanyang (old name of Seoul) as the new capital of the country and began building its major structures. Fortified walls were built along the four mountains surrounding the capital, and four main gates and four ancillary gates wereadded to the sections of fortified wall surrounding the capital. The main gate in the south was named Sungnyemun (meaning "gate of exalted ceremonies") and also known as Namdaemun Geat (south gate).
An arson attack in feb of 2008 resulted in severe damage to its structure including destruction of the entire second-floor roof. Restoration took over five years to complete.





 
3. Bank of Korea
 
    The Bank of Korea was established in June of 1950. It was originally established with a capital of 1.5 billion won, all of which was subscribed by the Government, but the amendment of the Bank of Korea Act in 1962 made the Bank a special juridical person having no capital.


 
4. Shinsegae Department Store
 

   In 1930, Shinsegae, the first department store of Korea, brought light to the history of distribution industry in Korea. Over the past 80 years, Shinsegae has been leading the affluent living culture of Korea by ceaselessly striving to advance in the distribution industry.
